Sponsored Obstacle Course by Tracey Evans July 2009

I wanted to do ‘my bit’ to help Mike and so I decided to organise an obstacle course for kids in my back garden during the school summer holidays.

A total of 18 children took part in the event and a grand total of £536 was raised through individual sponsorship, an entry fee and refreshments sold during the event.

Wednesday 29th July

Today was the day! However…it was pouring down and with lots of dark clouds looming overhead it didn’t look very promising! So, after checking the weather reports and after several phone calls to those taking part, I decided to postpone to the next day as it was forecast to be dry.

Thursday 30th July

Woke up to yet another grey wet day…not good! The forecast said it would clear by 10am so I stayed optimistic, but…at 10am it poured down! It did clear up in the end though and so we went ahead. The first to arrive were Phoebe & Chloe who didn’t seem to mind that the grass was soaking wet and enjoyed going round the garden with my two boys, Jacob & Tom, doing the different obstacles.

Most of the children were able to make this changed date and they all thoroughly enjoyed themselves and even went around the course several times! Little Phoebe especially enjoyed the chocolate cakes!

Thursday 6th August

The sun was shining and Harry was the first to arrive all ready for action in his shorts & t-shirt, but then… it started raining! So it was inside for cakes & drinks while we waited for it to stop. There were showers all day but all the children who came were able to do the course in the dry and loved it, all receiving medals at the end… as well as more cakes!

My thanks to the children who took part, the parents who supported the event, those who sponsored them, my Mum who helped me on the day and Sue Madine for the lovely cakes. Despite the weather it was a great success!
